I was just looking at this pic trying to work out how to do the poppies, when I noticed something incredibly sweet.
Some people at the War Memorial put poppies in the spots where their relatives names are. Some people put them in next to surnames which are the same as theirs, even if they don't know the actual person mentioned on the boards.
But otherwise people tend to jut walk along and put their poppies somewhere relatively random on the wall.
What I noticed is that there are lots of poppies around adult height, but also a lot of poppies right down the bottom at kiddy height, and a gap in the middle. So lots and lots of children will remember coming to the War Memorial to place a poppy, and carry on the tradition into the future.
If anything, it seems to me there are more poppies than there ever used to be on the walls.
