Hobbysew Black and White Challenge

I went to Hobbysew in Belconnen yesterday to buy some bits and pieces for Soldier On, and couldn't help myself - I picked up a challenge pack for a small quilt. The theme was black and white, with a pack of 6 fabrics, rules are you must use some of each fabric and can use one other fabric if you like.

I was going through my old sketch books looking for inspiration and came across a pic I drew of a wattlebird ages ago, which I love but have never gotten around to using. So I'm using it for this!

I first cut a base of the white fabric, onto interfacing for a bit of stability, then used visofix to collage the other fabrics into place. I auditioned the bird on a few different fabrics but in the end went with the bright yellow, it made the black and white stick out better.
I've quilted the background, so all I have to do is attach the bird and quilt it! I'm using the remaining black for the border.
