It's my birthday today and to make up for missing the last 7 birthdays James went all out. He took Friday off and we went to most of the galleries in Cairns and had lunch in Port Douglas. We had dinner in the city followed by an early session of monuments men (loved the Bill Murray shower scene!) Then yesterday we got up at stupid o clock to go hot air ballooning!
It was amazing! I'm not super keen on heights but it wasn't scary at all and the view was brilliant!
We also got to visit the Afghanistan Memorial at Yungaburra. It is a beautiful place, next to the lake, and a great place to remember the sacrifices made by our soldiers in Afghanistan.
I wanted to take some oil stick rubbings from the area around the Memorial, to use in the Anzac Quilts. There was a repeated feather pattern on the benches and I was lucky enough to find it on the donation box, since I feel uncomfortable with taking anything from the Memorial itself.
I would have made Sue proud, it was windy and raining but I still got a good copy.
We met some of our oldest friends for dinner at Salt House last night and today we're heading to Mum and Dad's place to have a joint birthday tea (Dad is 68 today).
Hope everyone has had a great weekend!
